Navigating The World Of Plus Size Bra: Tips For Finding The Perfect Fit
Finding good plus-size yoga bras is often a challenge for a plus-size person doing yoga. Not only does the bra need to be of a material that is comfortable and stretchy to help during exercise, but it should also provide the right kind of support. For that to happen, you need to find your perfect fit.
Understanding bra sizing
The first step in finding the perfect fit bra is to understand what bra sizing means. There are two parameters of bra sizing, one is the band size, and the other is the cup size. The band size is the measurement of your chest area under your bust plus 4 and then rounded down to the nearest multiple of 2. In the UK, band sizes are measured in inches, and they go up 2 inches between sizes. Currently, you will find sizes 28 to 64 inches.
On the other hand, cup size is determined by the difference in measurements between your over-bust and under-bust (rounded down to the nearest multiple of 2). This increases by 1 with A standing for a difference of 4-5 inches. One difference between UK and US bra measurements is that, after D, in the UK you have DD while in the US you have E cup. In the UK, the letter 'I' is not used, rather the consonants that come after C is used in doubles like DD follows D.
Finding Your Measurements
Before you look online for affordable plus-size tops and bras, you first need to measure yourself properly. To do that, follow these steps:
- Stand in front of a full-size mirror.
- Take a soft measuring tape and measure your chest at the highest part of your bust loosely. Note down the measurement in inches.
- Similarly, place the tape under your bust and measure snuggly. Note it down.
- Add 4 to your under-bust measurement and round it to the nearest multiple of 2. This is your band size.
- Now subtract your under-bust measurement (rounded to the nearest multiple of 2) from your over-bust measurement. This is your cup size.
Suppose your over-bust measurement is 43 and under-bust 37, which is rounded up to 36. Then the difference is 7, which makes it C. So, your bra size is 36C, but you can go up one cup size depending on the style of the bra.
For sports bras like yoga bras, it is best to stay as close to the measurement as possible. Then only will you get the right support for your busts when exercising.
